The Health Care Foundation

OF THE ORANGES

Welcome to the Healthcare Foundation of the Oranges

At the Healthcare Foundation of the Oranges, we are committed to fostering resilient communities in East Orange, Orange, Irvington and the western border areas of Newark, New Jersey. With a mission to reduce homelessness, combat food insecurity, promote healthy lifestyles, and provide essential mental health support, we work to create meaningful change for our neighbors in need. Together, we’re building a foundation for happier, healthier lives.

WHO WE ARE

Healthcare Foundation Of The Oranges is a charitable nonprofit trust which operates under NJSA26:2H-7.11; the Community Health Care Assets Protection Act (CHAPA) with assets and proceeds from the sale of a nonprofit community hospital (East Orange General Hospital which closed its doors in 2016, in East Orange New Jersey)

In 2016, the Healthcare Foundation Of The Oranges board was formed from the board of trustees at East Orange General Hospital. The Foundation operates on the investment income from these proceeds and donations from benefactors who believe in our mission and values. We are located at 80 South Munn Avenue in East Orange, New Jersey. We are also the proud owners and sponsors of a 24 unit supportive, housing facility for individuals who would otherwise be homeless. Most of these wonderful people have a mental health diagnosis and or other emotional or developmental conditions. Our home office is also based at the same location which is 80 South Munn Avenue in East Orange, New Jersey.

Our mission is irrevocably dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of the communities that were once served by East Orange General Hospital: East Orange, Orange, Irvington, and the bordering Westward neighborhoods of Newark.

We are also the proud owners and sponsors of a 24 unit supportive, housing facility called "Hope Gardens” for individuals who would otherwise be homeless. Most of these wonderful people have a mental health diagnosis and or other emotional or developmental conditions. Our home office is also based at the same location which is 80 South Munn Avenue in East Orange, New Jersey.

Our Mission

We envision communities where no one has to face homelessness, hunger, or a lack of essential mental health support alone. By connecting people with resources and fostering a compassionate network of care, we’re striving to eliminate barriers and promote sustainable well-being. We plan to eliminate the barriers to health as defined by the "Social Determinants of Health" with grant funds and programs with a Health focus in the communities that we serve.

Social Determinants.png

The Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) is recognized by the United States Centers for Disease Control and the New Jersey State Department of Health as a means by which barriers to healthy living may be eliminated when addressed. The Health Care Foundation Of The Oranges regularly collaborates with local organizations that strive to eliminate barriers to healthy living and recognizes the Social Determinants of Health as a means to accomplish this goal. Social Determinants of Health vary across communities and populations and health disparities are often exacerbated by unequal experiences. Systematic and structural inequities, such as limited employment and education opportunities, lack of affordable and safe housing, low availability of nutritious food, high rates of exposure to environmental health hazards and inadequate access to healthcare services can significantly jeopardize health and well-being for generations.
